NHTSA's catalog lists 78 three-character WMIs for buses, the eighth-largest count among its nine vehicle types. Small manufacturers add 86 six-character codes, 52 percent of all bus codes. Of the three-character codes, 29 are registered in the United States, and 4DR has the longest model list (223). The newest addition is U1V, listed in vPIC on July 22, 2025.
